Mission Overview

International Medical Relief is offering a 7-day medical mission to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where volunteers will help provide healthcare and health education to underserved and vulnerable populations in and around the country's capital.

Despite Phnom Penh being home to major hospitals and healthcare institutions, access to care remains uneven. Rapid urban growth, migration from rural areas, economic inequality, and other barriers can leave families without consistent access to trained healthcare providers, clinics, medications, and preventive care.

According to IMR, conditions that may otherwise be preventable or treatable—including maternal and infant health concerns, dental disease, malnutrition, anemia, chronic pain, and common infections—can become more serious when early care is unavailable.

Children, women, migrant workers, unregistered residents, and families living on the margins of the city may be particularly affected.

For some patients served by these clinics, an international medical mission may provide a rare opportunity during the year to receive care from a trained healthcare professional.

Phnom Penh combines a rapidly developing urban environment with significant history and culture. While the city contains major medical institutions, some communities in and around the capital continue to face financial, logistical, and systemic barriers to accessing healthcare.

Outside clinic hours, volunteers may have opportunities to experience the city's culture, food, markets, historic landmarks, and the Mekong River.

According to IMR, accommodations during the mission are designed to be safe, clean, and comfortable.

Why This Mission Matters

Phnom Penh's growth has created new economic and healthcare opportunities, but access to those resources is not equal across the population.
