Mission Overview

International Medical Relief is offering a 7-day medical mission to Bohol, Philippines, where volunteers will help serve remote and underserved communities that may have limited access to consistent healthcare.

The Philippines is made up of more than 7,000 islands. Although healthcare services in major urban areas can be of a high standard, significant disparities exist between urban and rural communities. Residents of remote island communities can face challenges accessing medical care, medications, dependable medical equipment, and health education.

IMR began working in the Philippines in 2014, initially providing emergency disaster relief following the devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan. Since then, IMR reports that its teams have served nearly 10,000 patients through the efforts of nearly 300 volunteers and staff.

This September mission will take the team to Bohol, an island province in the Central Visayas region, where volunteers will work alongside local healthcare professionals and community partners to provide medical care and health education.

IMR specifically notes a need for dental professionals and dental hygienists for this mission.

Why This Mission Matters

Healthcare access across the Philippines can vary substantially depending on geography and socioeconomic conditions. Remote island communities may have significantly greater difficulty accessing healthcare professionals, medications, health education, and other essential healthcare resources.
