This January mission continues that work by bringing healthcare services and health education directly to communities where poverty, overcrowding, sanitation challenges, healthcare costs, and limited access to services can prevent people from receiving needed care.

The Need
Despite having an established healthcare system and trained healthcare professionals, India continues to experience significant disparities in access to care. Poverty, overcrowding, sanitation challenges, and the cost of healthcare particularly affect economically vulnerable communities.
Jaipur's rapidly growing population places additional pressure on the local healthcare infrastructure. Government hospitals can face high patient volumes, contributing to delayed or unavailable treatment for some patients.
Women also face particular healthcare-access challenges, creating an ongoing need for women's health education and essential health support.
IMR's mission is designed to help reach people who have difficulty accessing the existing healthcare system while providing education that can continue benefiting patients and families after the volunteer team leaves.
Our Work
IMR began its relief efforts in India in 2011 and reports having served nearly 16,000 patients through more than 400 staff members and volunteers.
An important part of IMR's approach is combining direct patient care with sustainable education.
Educational initiatives in India have included:
- Clean water and sanitation
- Dehydration and rehydration
- Malnutrition and nutrition
- Family planning
- Oral health
- Respiratory diseases
- Malaria prevention
- Hygiene and handwashing
- Preventive healthcare
- Healthy lifestyle practices
The mission also emphasizes working shoulder-to-shoulder with local partners to strengthen community healthcare capacity and support future healthcare and public-health leaders.
Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities will depend on each volunteer's professional background, credentials, IMR's mission needs, and the scope authorized by IMR and its local partners.
Healthcare volunteers may assist with patient assessments, basic medical care, treatment of appropriate conditions, preventive healthcare, patient education, women's health needs, health screenings, and referrals or coordination as appropriate.
Volunteers may also participate in community health education addressing hygiene, nutrition, hydration, infectious-disease prevention, oral health, family planning, and other locally relevant health topics.
All clinical volunteers must practice only within the scope authorized by IMR and applicable local requirements.
Sustainable Impact
This mission is intended to accomplish more than providing several days of clinical care.
IMR's model emphasizes education and partnership so that patients, families, caregivers, and local healthcare professionals can continue applying what they learn after the volunteer team departs.
IMR aligns this work with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health & Wellbeing and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
IMR works in collaboration with and at the invitation of local hosts in communities where there is an identified need for medical, dental, and health-education services.
Lodging & Transportation
IMR will provide safe and comfortable accommodations throughout the week in Jaipur.
IMR will also arrange safe and reliable transportation to and from clinic locations.
Volunteers should review IMR's final mission materials for details regarding airport transportation, airfare, meals, vaccinations, visas, travel insurance, personal expenses, and any other costs or arrangements that are not included in the mission contribution.

Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, is widely known as the Pink City and is recognized for its historic architecture, markets, craftsmanship, and cultural heritage.
While serving the community is the primary purpose of the trip, volunteers may also have opportunities to experience some of Jaipur's major cultural attractions, including City Palace, Albert Hall Museum, Hawa Mahal/Wind Palace, Jal Mahal/Water Palace, Amber Fort, and Galta Ji Temple.
Optional Trip Extension
Volunteers interested in extending their time in India may have the opportunity to participate in an optional post-mission extension through IMR's travel partner.
Potential experiences include:
- Visiting the Taj Mahal
- Exploring Old and New Delhi
- Visiting Humayun's Tomb
- Additional cultural and historical experiences in the Delhi region
Any extension is separate from the primary medical mission and should be coordinated directly through the applicable travel provider.
Mission Contribution
The mission is currently advertised at a $2,000 Early Bird price for volunteers who register before 10/05/2026, representing a $200 savings.
This is an unpaid volunteer humanitarian mission, not a paid healthcare or locum tenens assignment.
The mission contribution supports IMR's ongoing global relief, community healthcare, and capacity-building initiatives. Volunteers should confirm directly with IMR what the contribution includes and any additional costs for airfare, meals, visas, vaccinations, insurance, excursions, or personal expenses.
Important HPA Healthcare Notice
HPA Healthcare is sharing this opportunity with our healthcare practitioner network for individuals interested in international humanitarian service.
HPA Healthcare is not the sponsor, organizer, operator, employer, staffing agency, or administrator of this mission. The mission is organized and administered by International Medical Relief.
Participation is completely voluntary and independent of any employment, independent-contractor, locum tenens, or other professional relationship with HPA Healthcare. Participation or non-participation will not affect eligibility for HPA Healthcare assignments.
International Medical Relief and its local partners determine volunteer eligibility, credentialing requirements, permitted scope of practice, clinical responsibilities, mission fees, travel requirements, lodging, transportation, insurance, safety protocols, and all other mission operations.
Healthcare professionals should not assume that malpractice or other insurance associated with an HPA Healthcare assignment applies to international volunteer activities. Participants should confirm directly with IMR what professional liability, travel medical, emergency evacuation, and other insurance coverage is provided or required.
About International Medical Relief
International Medical Relief organizes humanitarian medical missions that bring healthcare professionals and other volunteers together with local partners to serve vulnerable and underserved communities.
Through a combination of direct patient care, health education, local partnerships, and capacity building, IMR seeks to create an impact that continues beyond the individual mission.
For the Jaipur mission, that means helping provide care today while giving patients and communities practical health knowledge they can continue using long after the team returns home.
